Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Mbps and MB/s? ▼
Mbps (megabits per second) and MB/s (megabytes per second) measure different things. Since 1 byte = 8 bits, you need to divide Mbps by 8 to get MB/s. For example, 100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/s. Internet service providers typically advertise speeds in Mbps, while download managers and browsers often show MB/s.
Why is my actual download speed slower than what my ISP advertises? ▼
ISP speeds are theoretical maximums under ideal conditions. Real-world speeds are affected by: network congestion during peak hours, server-side limitations, Wi-Fi interference and signal strength, distance from your router, number of devices sharing the connection, and protocol overhead. Typically, expect 70-90% of advertised speeds.
Is my data uploaded or stored when I use this calculator? ▼
No. All calculations happen entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No data is sent to any server, and nothing is stored. Your privacy is completely protected. You can even use this tool offline once the page is loaded.
